Twenty citizens, mostly foreigners and members of the IV section of the CNE's Maritime Grouping 413, joined the Ferragudo Parish Council this Saturday for a "civic and participatory action" to remove graffiti, tags and doodles from the public space.
According to Luís Alberto, president of the Parish Council, the initiative was promoted «corresponding to the challenge of a group of citizens» and aimed «to make the entire population aware of the need to keep the public space in the best conditions, in this case without graffiti, as a way not only to reduce the bad appearance of the equipment», but also to raise awareness of «those who, through vandalism, scribble on the walls» to the fact that «their removal requires substantial human, material and financial resources».
The action, logistically supported by the Parish Council of Ferragudo, with the support of the Municipality, removed "a substantial part" of the existing scribbles in the riverside area and next to the church.
The initiative will continue in the coming weeks with resources from the Parish Council.
The mayor stresses that, to return the viewpoint next to the church to its «ideal state», paint it and protect it from vandalism, it will be necessary to spend 2000 euros.
The Parish Council thanks "all those who participated with their spirit of citizenship, requesting that each citizen be a vigilant watchdog of these acts of vandalism, in order to promote the identification of their authors, forcing them to repair the damage caused in the equipment that belongs to everyone».
