Viver o Verão returns in an extended version for children and young people

Registration takes place between April 10th and 21st (for monitors) and from May 2nd to 12th for participants

Lagos City Council will continue this year with the free time occupation program for children and young people, resuming the extended version of “Viver o Verão”.

The participation period for children is once again monthly, with plans to increase the number of vacancies and increase the scholarship awarded to young monitors.

Promoting activities during the longer period of school holidays, developing personal and social skills, encouraging healthy lifestyle habits, stimulating creative abilities and educating for citizenship, remain, however, the objectives of this project.

Around 700 children and young people – distributed among minis (6 to 13 years old), juniors (14 and 15 years old) and monitors (young people aged between 16 and 29 years old) – is the global number of participants that the municipality hopes to involve in the ludic-pedagogical, sporting activities and field trips that will take place in the months of July and August, simultaneously in the city and in the centers of Bensafrim and Barão de São João, Luz and Odiáxere.

Three timetables will operate at the Lagos centre: in the morning, between 9:00 am and 13:00 pm, in the afternoon, between 14:00 pm and 17:00 pm, and in the morning and in the afternoon, from 9:00 am to 13:14 pm and from 00:17 pm to 00:XNUMX pm, with the availability of lunch in full day modality.

In the other nuclei, the program will work exclusively in the morning. For younger children, 528 vacancies will be opened.

With a differentiated role in the functioning structure of “Viver o Verão”, the juniors (young people aged 14 and 15) will be assistant monitors in groups of younger children, with the aim of starting to learn, «in a real context, the functions that may come to play in the future, with the opening of 44 vacancies in this edition», clarifies the autarchy.

There are also 108 young monitors assigned to the activities who will monitor and ensure the safety of the children during the period in which the activities take place and on trips outside.

In addition to the role of “Monitor of Groups of Children”, young people can choose to collaborate with the Environmental Promotion Service in environmental awareness campaigns on the beaches or with the municipality's Family Support Service.

In order to carry out this edition of “Viver o Verão”, the municipality allocated a budget of more than 160 thousand euros, to which are added the costs assumed by the four parishes of the municipality, which are partners in the development of this project, defraying the payment of the team that
will be in charge of monitoring activities on the ground.

Registration for the program takes place between the 10th and 21st of April (for monitors) and from the 2nd to the 12th of May (for participants), and must be done by completing and submitting a specific form, to be made available on the municipality's website.
