Vilamoura will have a solar panel community capable of serving 15 homes

The company “Luzsimples” was chosen to carry out this project

The company Vilamoura World will implement a renewable energy community, with around 60 square meters of photovoltaic panels, which will allow, by 2035, to supply electricity to around 15 homes.

These panels have an estimated annual production of 50.000MWh (megawatts/hour).

This renewable production will avoid the emission of approximately 10 tons of CO2 per year, equivalent to planting around 80 trees every year.

In a first phase, until 2024, this community will allow the production of 2.000MWh of renewable energy per year, which translates into the supply of electricity to more than 1.000 families, in an initial reduction of around 450 tons of CO2 emissions.

«The National Energy and Climate Plan (PNEC) stipulates that renewable energies are responsible for 80% of electricity production by 2030, so we are aware that it is necessary to promote the energy transition», says João Brion Sanches, CEO of Vilamoura World , entity that is the master planner from Vilamoura.

«In addition, our vision for Vilamoura, as the best destination in the Algarve to live, spend holidays and invest, also implies a commitment to sustainability. That's why we decided to go ahead with this ambitious project, which will apply to all our real estate projects and will extend to the already consolidated areas of Vilamoura», he adds.

«By creating a Renewable Energy Community, we intend to help our current and potential customers to reduce their energy costs by 25% to 30%, contributing to the decarbonization of the economy and also following the sustainability policies promoted by the Municipality of Loulé », he says.

The company “Luzsimples” was chosen to carry out this project.

«As a partner based in the Algarve region and with know-how, will certainly contribute to the development of the local economy and to the establishment of technological knowledge in the region», concludes João Brion Sanches.
