The 1st “Cidade de Lagoa – Zé Gregório International Guitar Competition” will take place from March 31st to April 2nd, in the variants of Solo Guitar and Chamber Music with Guitar, at the Centro Cultural Convento de S. José and at the Auditorium Carlos do Carmo.
«Unique south of the Tagus», this competition is artistically directed by Eudoro Grade and will take place every two years in solo and Chamber Music with Guitar.
The objectives of the “Cidade de Lagoa – Zé Gregório International Guitar Competition” are “to value young musicians and facilitate their integration into the artistic environment, promote young performers and their passion for the guitar, publicize the creations of great composers, as well as to provide dialogue and the presentation of university works on music in general – and guitar music in particular – as well as on the world's musical heritage».
In parallel to the competition, the creation of the “Cidade de Lagoa Prize” is planned for the best guitarist from the Algarve to participate, «with the aim of promoting and encouraging a taste for the instrument among young musicians in our region».
The Contest will close with a grand final at the professional level (level VI), where prizes will be awarded to the winners, in the various age levels in the contest.
This Closing Gala will take place on the 2nd of April, at 18 pm, in the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium, and admission is free.
