Tradition and street entertainment go together in Portimão this Easter

Chamber will promote initiatives thinking about residents and visitors

Egg hunting, the Easter Bunny and a small market, as well as the age-old traditions of this time, are part of the program that the Portimão Council will promote in different areas of the municipality, between the 1st and 9th of April, with residents in mind and on visitors.

During this period, there will be entertainment centers in Largo da Mó, Praça da República, Jardim 1º de Novembro and Jardim Visconde Bívar.

«As far as public spaces are concerned, Largo da Mó will be one of the places to visit, attracting residents and tourists with the Giant Basket full of colored eggs. (…) In Praça da República, animation will be guaranteed with rides on the Carousel and adrenaline experiences motivated by the Karts track, not forgetting the photospot for “selfies” inside a Giant Easter Egg, which can be registered daily, from 15:00 pm to 21:00 pm», according to the Portimão City Council.

Between the 1st and the 9th of April, the public will also be able to count on an Easter Market, promoted by Teia D`Impulsos”, in Jardim 1º de Novembro, composed of small houses destined to small craft businesses in crochet and macramé for decoration.

There will also be a display of local products, with emphasis on wine, cheeses and confectionery alluding to the season, thus stimulating the heritage and our regional culture.

The space, which can be visited from 15 pm to 00 pm, will feature «two perfect mega hearts worthy of photographic recordings», a swing and daily entertainment with small musical performances.

On the long Easter weekend, between 7 and 9 April, boys and girls up to 12 years of age «will be able to participate, from 15 pm to 00 pm, in the “Egg Hunt” activity in Jardim Visconde Bívar and get to know colors the Easter Bunny and his throne».

Those interested in participating in this hunt only have to register on the day and at the location.

On the 8th of April, at 21:00, TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão will host an Easter Concert, by Orquestra do Algarve.

As far as traditions are concerned, Holy Week will be celebrated in the Parish of Nª Srª da Conceição – Main Church of Portimão, Parish of the Main Church of Mexilhoeira Grande, Parish of the Divine Savior of Alvor, Parish of the Church of Montes de Alvor, Parish of the Church of St. André -Penina and Nª Srª do Amparo Parish, in addition to the Vicariate of Pedra Mourinha, by holding Easter vigils, Eucharists, masses and processions.

All activities of the initiative “Live Easter in Portimão 2023” are free to enter, being organized by the City Council.
