The group The Pennsylvania State University Men's Glee Club, from the United States of America, is the main star of the 23rd Coral de Lagoa Week, which will take place from the 14th to the 20th of May, in this Algarve municipality.
The initiative, organized by Ideias do Levante and Câmara de Lagoa, also includes the participation of the Coral Ossónoba Group (Faro), Coral Almira (Alcácer do Sal) and the host Coral Ideias do Levante.
The concert by the men's Glee Club of the University of Pennsylvania is scheduled for Sunday, May 14, at 17 pm, at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium (Lagoa). It will feature the special participation of Coral Ideias do Levante.
On Wednesday, May 17, at 20 pm, there will be an open rehearsal by the choral group of Ideias do Levante, at CEFLA – Lagoa Studies and Training Center, in which everyone is invited to “try and sing”.
On Saturday, May 20, at 17 pm, it will be the turn of the Church of Santo António, in Mexilhoeira da Carregação, to receive a joint performance by Coral Ossónoba, Coral Almira and Coral Ideias do Levante.
All activities are recommended for people over 6 years old, limited to the existing capacity, and are free of charge. However, it is necessary to timely reservation through an online form by clicking here.
Those who make reservations for the show at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium should go to the box office to pick up the gift ticket 30 minutes before the start of the performance.
The Coral Week of Lagoa is, according to José Carlos Bago d'Uva (mentor of the initial project), a meeting open to the sharing of musical experiences and unforgettable moments of conviviality, being the annual occasion in which the municipality of Lagoa sounds “the four voices” or (en)/canto of vocal polyphony, through lands “of the Levant”.
For José Carlos, this date already represents a milestone in the circuit of choral events in the country, to whose genesis he is proud to have contributed.
«Many were those who had already “deposited” their voices in the mythical cistern of the Convent of S. José (in the first editions…) and also those who contributed to enhance the city’s auditorium, making their emotions heard through the choral repertoire who work with dedication and enthusiasm», explains the Ideias do Levante association.
Ideias do Levante is a cultural association founded on April 27, 1995, with headquarters in Lagoa and extension in Portimão (Espaço Portas do Sol), with activity around training, production and cultural promotion, through regular and occasional projects, not only in the area of performing, visual and literary arts, but also in the area of health and well-being.
