The Campus Open: Manuel Guedes de Almeida and Duarte Trocado win on the first day

Rain affected the opening day

The Portuguese tennis players Manuel Guedes de Almeida and Duarte Trocado qualified, this Sunday afternoon, for the second of three rounds of the qualifying of The Campus Open, whose opening day was delayed and reduced by rain.

The sixth edition of the US$25.000 international tournament takes place between the 5th and 12th of March with the support of the Quinta do Lago Resort and the Portuguese Tennis Federation.

In one of the 10 meetings that took place on the first day, Manuel Guedes de Almeida prevailed against the Spaniard Nicolas Rafael Goldberg Alviani, number 1619 in the ATP ranking and 12th seed in the series of the qualifying phase, with the partials of 6-3 and 6-2.

With this victory, the 26-year-old Portuguese tennis player became one of the first to ensure his presence in the second round, a stage in which he may even face a compatriot. For that, Gonçalo Falcão (the most experienced among the Portuguese entourage that makes up this stage of the tournament) will have to overcome the German Jimmy Yang (1425th), 10th placed on the list of seeds.

As for Duarte Trocado, the youngster from The Campus experienced an unforgettable debut in tournaments on the professional circuit when he prevailed against Tiago Serpa Neves by 6-4 and 6-2 in one of the three 100% Portuguese matches in the first round of the qualifying. A duel with the American Michael Zhu (1058th and fifth pre-designated) follows.
