Tennis: Gonçalo Oliveira crowns himself “king” at the Portimão tournament

Playing at home, at the club that practically saw him born for tennis

Dream week for Portuguese tennis player Gonçalo Oliveira. Playing at home, at the club that practically saw him born for tennis, as he insisted on mentioning in his consecration speech, Oliveira faced and defeated one of the most fearsome opponents (by the full game) that participated in this 4th edition of Portimão M25 International Open, the Australian Akira Santillan, by 7-6 /2) and 6-4, in 2 hours and 19 minutes.

A lot of balance in the first set, decided only in the tie break and for the Portuguese left-hander, who, even so, did not have an easy task and was forced to always be on the limits to be successful.

In the second game, when he was comfortably winning by 5-2, Santillan showed himself again, using the weapons that make him a tennis player to be taken into account in the future circuit and also in the challenger, he still recovered to 4-5, but Oliveira was determined to win this title and put an end to the aspirations of the Australian born in Japan, to the delight of the supporters who made themselves heard throughout the week here at the Clube de Ténis e Padel de Portimão.

In the end, Gonçalo Oliveira received the champion's trophy from the councilor of the Portimão City Council, José Pedro Cardoso, while Ricardo Marzagão, President of the Tennis and Padel Club of Portimão, handed the cup to the finalist, Akira Santillan.

With this triumph, indeed, triumphs, because was also champion of pairs, the Portuguese took home the biggest slice of prize money of 25 thousand dollars, raising 3900 euros, while the Australian collected 1700 euros.
