Household savings rate drops to 6% in 2022

A reduction of 3,8 percentage points compared to 2021, INE announced today

The household savings rate fell to 6,1% of disposable income in 2022, a reduction of 3,8 percentage points compared to 2021, the National Institute of Statistics (INE) announced today.

According to the statistical institute, “compared to 2021, the RDB [gross disposable income] increased by 7,8% in 2022”, but this growth “was not enough to offset the increase in final consumption expenditure, which stood at 12,5%. %, which determined the reduction of the savings rate from 9,9% in 2021 to 6,1% in 2022”.

Thus, according to INE data, at the end of last year, for every 100 euros available, families saved around 6,1 euros.
