Tavira organizes guided visit to Igreja das Ondas

Registration is free, but limited to 25 participants.

A visit to the Church of Nossa Senhora das Ondas, in Tavira, under the guidance of art historian Marco Sousa Santos, will take place on Saturday, March 25th, at 10:00 am, organized by the Town Hall of this Algarve city.

The Church of Nossa Senhora das Ondas (officially dedicated to São Pedro Gonçalves Telmo) was founded in the early years of the XNUMXth century, on the initiative and devotion of the sailors of Tavira.

Badly damaged by the 1755 earthquake, the building was partially rebuilt in the second half of the 2th century, by the hand of the celebrated master Diogo Tavares de Ataíde.

Inside, images, altarpieces and paintings of great artistic quality stand out, including one of the only ceilings painted in an architectural perspective in the Algarve region.
