Secretary of State for Higher Education visited University of Algarve

The initiative took place within the scope of “Government + Next”

Pedro Nuno Teixeira, Secretary of State for Higher Education, visited this Thursday, March 2, several structures at the University of Algarve, within the scope of “Governo + Próxima”. 

The visit began at 14 pm at the UAlg Tech Campus – Business Accelerator of the University of Algarve, followed by the women's university residence on Campus da Penha and the UAlg Polo in Portimão.

In terms of incubation, Hugo Barros, head of the Division of CRIA – Division of Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer, presented the work and results of UAlg Tec Start, as well as the companies created in the region, resulting from the work of promoting the entrepreneurial spirit and of accelerating ideas.

In terms of acceleration, the presentation of the University made it possible to publicize the Institution's vertical strategies, namely: UAlg Tec Campus, UAlg Tec Health – Clinical Simulation Center, Technological Pole in the sector of transport, mobility and energy solutions, to be installed in Portimão , in partnership with Parkalgar, specialized in the Energy and Mobility sector, and UAlg Tec MED – Competence Center focused on Research and Innovation, Knowledge Transfer, and Entrepreneurial Discovery, focused on the Mediterranean Diet, adding skills in the areas of Food engineering, Tourism, Agronomy, AgroTech, and Heritage (still under design).

This initiative made it possible to make known to Pedro Nuno Teixeira the strategy of the UAlg, in what is assumed to be its third mission (extension), and to make known the companies installed in the UAlg Tec Campus, in a visit that included the dean Paulo Águas and several members of the rectory team.

Currently, 17 companies (national and international) are housed at Tec Campus, three entrepreneurs under the Individual Entrepreneur regime (ENI), with about 300 employees, in an area of ​​4.500 m2.

Accompanied by the administrator of Social Action Services at UAlg António Cabecinha, the Secretary of State visited the female university residence on Campus da Penha, which will undergo rehabilitation under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).

The visit ended at the Escola Superior de Gestão, Hotelaria e Turismo (ESGHT) on the Campus of Portimão, where the Secretary of State was also received by the director of ESGHT Alexandra Rodrigues Gonçalves, by the coordinator of the Campus of Portimão Pedro Garcês, and by the vice-president of the Municipality of Portimão Álvaro Miguel Bila.
