Four arrested and 106 bales of hashish seized in southern Portugal in joint operation

The action of a Portuguese Air Force maritime patrol aircraft was fundamental

106 bales of hashish, corresponding to approximately 3710 kilos, four men detained, two Spanish nationals and two Moroccan nationals, and a high-speed vessel, suspected of drug trafficking activity, seized. This is the result of yet another joint operation that took place tonight, by the Portuguese Navy, the National Maritime Authority and the Portuguese Air Force, in collaboration with the Judiciary Police, in international waters in the south of Portugal.

During the operation, "suspicious movements of vessels related to drug trafficking were monitored", with "an approach operation carried out in international waters, south of the mainland, targeting the said vessel", explains the Navy in a statement.

The approach was made by two means, one from the Navy, operated by Marines, and another vessel from the Maritime Police.

«For the success of the mission, it was fundamental, in the initial phase, the patrol and surveillance carried out by a maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) of the Portuguese Air Force, which detected and followed the movements of the suspicious vessel, which would later be boarded with success", adds the Navy.

The vessel with the narcotic product was taken to the port of Faro, in order to continue the investigative steps, with the four men and the bundles of hashish being handed over to the Judiciary Police.
