OCS Quartet presents «North American Landscapes» in Mexilhoeira Grande and São Marcos da Serra

Program includes Dvorák's famous “Americano” quartet, in which the composer was inspired by the indigenous musical traditions of the United States, combining them with the Central European tradition

A quartet from Orquestra Clássica do Sul will perform in concert on the 11th and 12th of March, at the churches of Mexilhoeira Grande (Portimão) and São Marcos da Serra (Silves), to present a concert inspired by the «North American Landscapes ».

Thus, on the 11th, at 21:00 pm, and the following day, at 18:30 pm, the OCS quartet will interpret landscape-inspired themes by Missy Mazzoli, John Luther Adams and Antonin Dvorák, in tribute to North American landscapes.

Bojana Pantovik and Alma Ramirez (violins), Ivetta Natzakya (viola) and Ana Luísa Marques (cello) are the members of this chamber music group that will guide the audience on a journey to themes such as Death Valley Junction, Dream of the Canyon Wren and Quartet nº12, “Americano”.

The Orchestra emphasizes that «the United States of America has exerted a fascination on a global scale since the XNUMXth century. The immensity of its prairies, mountains and valleys inspired landscapes in the cinema that we still know and love today. But the music also accepts the motto, and in this case the example is set by two North American composers».

Missy Mazzoli is «one of the most rising names in the North American contemporary scene, giving a national premiere of her work inspired by the famous Death Valley, in the state of California, famous for being one of the hottest places in the world», adds to OCS.

Then follows the music of John Luther Adams, which will lead us to dream of the landscapes of Alaska.

This landscape inspiration concludes with Dvorák's famous “Americano” quartet, in which the composer was inspired by the indigenous musical traditions of the United States, combining them with the Central European tradition.

Admission to both concerts is free.
