President of the Algarve Tourism Region gives a «very positive» assessment of BTL [photo gallery]

João Fernandes, president of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA), makes a "very positive" assessment of the Lisbon Tourism Exchange (BTL), where the Algarve was promoted between the 1st and 5th of March. 

Although Saturday and Sunday were the «strongest days», thousands passed through the region's stand during the five days. «The balance is very positive and reveals the affection that Portuguese and foreigners have for the Algarve tourist destination», said João Fernandes to Sul Informação. 

According to the president of the RTA, the first three days of the fair were marked by meetings with the main operators and airlines that «reinforced the positive feedback of demand for the Algarve».

«The general feeling of the offer from our entrepreneurs who work in different areas was very positive and the perspectives for Easter and Summer are also very encouraging», the RTA president also stressed.

Regarding the stands, which were attended by the 16 municipalities of the Algarve and some companies, participation was «massive» over the weekend, which «demonstrated the interest of the final consumer in the Algarve destination».

João Fernandes also highlights the commitment given to culture during BTL and stresses that, in this sense, on the 13th of March, the profile of the cultural tourist in the Algarve.

On Friday, March 3rd, the day the Sul Informação was at BTL, the news and bets of Turismo do Algarve were presented, for 2023, the Smuggling Festival, the Algarve Wine Route, the Mediterranean Diet Fair, and even the first names on the poster MED Festival, among other initiatives.

During the event, João Fernandes also announced that he will not re-apply to the Tourism Region due to a concern regarding term limitations.

On balance, the still president of the RTA said that it was «an honor to work» for an entity that «represents all those who work for tourism in the Algarve».
