“Pão por Pão”: Banco Alimentar do Algarve distributes carcasses

The project started on February 17th and a daily delivery of 800 loaves is estimated

Banco Alimentar do Algarve and Padaria do Rio Torto have started a new partnership: for every Alentejo bread sold, Banco Alimentar receives a carcass that it distributes to those most in need.

The project started on February 17th and a daily delivery of 800 loaves is estimated. So far, around 9 carcasses have “knocked on the door” of those most in need.

The bread is collected by the Banco Alimentar do Algarve and goes directly to the institutions.

Bruno Gregório, owner of Padaria do Rio Torto, stresses that «this initiative is a way to give everyone the opportunity to have a carcass on their table. The idea is to reach more people».

«I've always been involved in social causes, but this is the first time I've had contact with the Algarve institution and the results are positive», he adds.

Nuno Cabrita Alves, president of the Food Bank of the Algarve, highlights the success of the “Pão por Pão” initiative.

«The carcasses are delivered to the institutions and actually reach those who need it most», he says.
