Requalification work on the Vau Wastewater Pumping Station has already ended

The EEAR do Vau remained in operation throughout the course of the work

The requalification work of the Vau Wastewater Pumping Station (EEAR), in Portimão, has already ended.

«At the Vau Wastewater Pumping Station (EEAR), which receives the high flow from the Mata/Foz do Arade EEAR, most of the civil construction structures, including the pumping well, were in a very advanced state of degradation , and, in some places, the reinforcements are visible, a situation caused by the high levels of hydrogen sulfide that were found in the installation», says the company Águas do Algarve.

«Equipment such as the pumping groups, in operation since 2006, also showed a lot of wear, with a consequent loss of performance», he adds.

The objective of the “Rehabilitation of Vau EEAR” contract was to install two pumping systems in line, with a total capacity of 1000 m3/h. Prohibited.

In addition to this intervention, the installation's electrical and control system was also changed, as well as the connection of this installation to the Sanitation remote management.

«The installation of an in-line pumping system makes it possible to raise the gravitational effluents, directly from the point of arrival, without being loaded and without the need for a collection well, which, in practice, translates into the fact that it is possible to pump a flow exactly equal to the arrival flow», says Águas do Algarve.

The Vau EEAR remained in operation throughout the course of the work, which required a great deal of coordination with the installation's operation and maintenance teams.

This is an «important investment» for Portimão because, «in addition to being prepared to accommodate the expected increase in flow in the near future, the fact that the pumping groups work in a dry chamber, avoids inconveniences such as the release of odors, which will significantly improve the environment of the installation and, consequently, of the surrounding area».
