New proposals from the Ministry «are details» that do not change the position of teachers

The Stop coordinator's statements were made at the door of the ministry where a teachers' protest is taking place

The leader of the Union of All Education Professionals (Stop) said this Thursday, March 9, that the new amendments presented by the Ministry of Education "are very small details", without the capacity to end the contestation.

«The proposals are very small details that do not justify a change in view of our position», said André Pestana, before joining the supplementary meeting requested by the unions to continue the negotiations for a new regime for recruiting and placing teachers.

Speaking to journalists, he said that the «expectation is negative» for the meeting because «what is on the table today is extremely serious».

The national coordinator of Stop pointed out the "red lines" of the document that prevent an agreement, such as the fact that the creation of Boards of Pedagogical Zone Staff is maintained, that permanent teachers "can stay in several schools to teach" or that contractors «who bind for the year have to apply for the entire country».

In addition to the diploma, the unions demand that the ministry show openness to other matters such as the recovery of about six and a half years of frozen service, that it ends with vacancies for access to the 5th and 7th echelons and quotas in the evaluation.

Stop also demands a salary increase of 120 euros for all school workers to face inflation.

Speaking to journalists, André Pestana said he was "perplexed by the lack of response from the guardianship" to the claims they have been making and which led to an indefinite strike that began exactly three months ago, on 9 December.

Despite the criticism, André Pestana underlined that the decision on a position will only be taken at the national meeting to be held in Coimbra on March 18 with all education professionals.

Today, the day that marks three months since the start of strikes at schools called by Stop, another decision by the Arbitral College was known, which decided to maintain minimum services in schools during the next week.

André Pestana added that the union has already filed "five lawsuits against minimum services, but justice is slow".
