March brings cinema, theater and music to Albufeira

Events run throughout the month

The Municipal Auditorium of Albufeira hosts, during the month of March, initiatives in the areas of cinema, theater and music.

From the 2nd to the 5th of March, the “Sophia Student” Awards 2023 will start, an initiative of the Municipality of Albufeira carried out in collaboration with the Academia Portuguesa de Cinema – Associação Portuguesa de Artes e Ciências Cinematográficas. During the four days of the event, participants will be able to enjoy workshops, masterclasses and workshops related to the world of cinema and also watch the screening of films nominated by the Academy.

On March 16, at 21 pm, Sérgio Tréfaut presents his most recent work “A Noiva”. Joana Bernardo, the young actress from Albufeira, stars in the film and portrays a European teenager who runs away from home to marry a Daesh guerrilla, becoming a Jihad bride, who, after becoming a widow with two children and pregnant with the third , living in a prison camp, will be tried by Iranian courts. Joana Bernardo, born in Paderne, will be present for a conversation with the public.

On the same weekend, music and dancing raise the curtain. On Saturday, the 17th, at 21 pm, the Orquestra Clássica do Sul will perform, conducted by guest conductor Constança Simas, in a moment whose program includes works by Jean Sibelius, Wolfgang Mozart and Louise Farrenc.

The show costs five euros and tickets are on sale at the João Bailote Municipal Gallery, on weekdays, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 13:30 pm to 17:00 pm.

On the 18th of March, Sunday, at 19 pm, the sports association from Albufeira, FUETE – Academia de Dança de Albufeira, will present its spring show, entitled “Vamos Dançar”. The performance has a cost of four euros.

Closing the month, on the occasion of World Theater Day, the commemoration takes place on the 26th with the children's musical “Aladino”, a love story well known by the youngest, and also on the 27th, at 21 pm, with the show "The Visit".

The imaginary story of António, a survivor in a deserted village, who remembers stories, talks about the land, the people, has fun, laughs, sings, prays, cries... A monologue by actor Pedro Giestas, in a production by Teatro Invisível.

Admission is free, subject to room capacity and tickets can be purchased at the municipal auditorium, on the day of the show, from 20:30 pm to 21:15 pm.
