More than 150 people gather in Quarteira for a public hearing on local accommodation

Audition was organized by PSD Algarve

More than 150 people attended the public hearing on local accommodation promoted by PSD Algarve, which took place yesterday at the Municipality Center of Quarteira.

According to the Social Democratic Party, "there were many public interventions against the Government's proposals".

Cristóvão Norte underlined that «regulate yes, destroy never»

«Local accommodation accounts for 42% of overnight stays and is an unavoidable reality in the regional and national economic panorama. There are those who boast – like the Government – with tourism numbers, but they do everything to eradicate a sector that is responsible for job creation. A black hole is being created in the region, which has more than 40000 local accommodations. Do they want more shadow economy again or pure and simply don't want any economy? The PSD will do everything to ensure that common sense prevails and the radicalism that the Government reveals in these measures does not advance", he said.

Rui Cristina, deputy to the Assembly of the Republic, also emphasized that «thinking that these measures against local accommodation solve or even contribute to solving the serious housing problem in the country is a lie».

Helena Raimundo, a member of the Associação de Alojamento Local in Portugal, was also present at the hearing, presenting data and expressing the threat to the survival of the sector posed by the Government's proposals.

Finally, the president of the PSD Algarve Cristóvão Norte reinforced that the party «will take all the initiatives at its disposal to stop these measures».

«They are unfair, unfounded, the result of prejudice and strongly harmful to many thousands of small landowners and the entire economy that comes from this activity», he concluded.
