The Day of the Stroke Patient will be marked by the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve (CHUA) with initiatives in different municipalities in the Algarve region, between the 27th and 31st of March.
CHUA is once again associated with this event after being awarded the award for "Best Celebration of the National Stroke Day 2022".
«The initiative is part of the awareness actions promoted by the Portuguese Stroke Society and will be promoted by a group of medical professionals, psychologists, social workers, nurses, therapists, physiotherapists, dietitians, cardiopneumology and neurophysiology technicians and technical assistants from the CHUA», according to the organizers of the event.
The initiatives start on Monday, the 27th, at 10:00 am, in Castro Marim, with an open class on the theme «How to “escape” from a stroke». At 11:30 am, a visit is scheduled to schools participating in the «Fast Heroes» project, where they will talk about the theme «Eating better to grow better».
Actions continue on March 28th in Ilha da Culatra with a visit to the local Basic School, at 9:00 am, where the initiative of the project “Fast Heroes” is repeated, «an award-winning educational program with superheroes as its theme and aim to promote relational skills and the ability to help others, in a playful and fun way».
At 11:00 am, the CHUA team of professionals will be at the Polidesportivo Pavilhão do Clube União Culatrense to carry out a screening of stroke risk factors.
The action will continue on March 30 to Alcoutim where, from 9 am, a thematic lecture will take place in the Main Hall of the Town Hall, with interventions by the President ARS Algarve, the President of Alcoutim City Council, the President of the CA CHUA, the Director of the Alcoutim School Group and the CHUA Stroke Unit Coordinator.
At 10:00 am an open class on the theme «How to “escape” from a stroke is scheduled». At 11:30 the delegation visits the local school.
The program ends on the 31st of March in Faro, Olhão and Portimão, with the passage of “Fast Heroes” through the schools of these municipalities. Still on that day, and in an initiative aimed at health professionals, it also takes place in the CHUA cafeteria, in Faro, the action «Eating healthy is eating with flavor».
«During all these days, and in parallel with the activities, it is evident in the Hospital Unit of Faro an exhibition of photographs that intends to show the work of the multidisciplinary team of the Stroke Unit, as well as the awareness actions carried out in the community over the years», adds the CHUA.
Professionals from the Rehabilitation Team and the Via Verde Stroke Team at the Portimão Hospital Unit of the CHUA will also promote, on the 31st of March, various initiatives with the western community within the scope of the National Day for Patients with Strokes.
At 12 pm, a session on the theme of stroke will take place in the auditorium of the Portimão Hospital Unit of CHUA, aimed at health professionals.
«With a program aimed at the community, a clarification session for the population is scheduled for 16 pm, in the auditorium of the Municipal Library of Portimão. The «Healthy Snack» workshop, with Sandra Silva, also takes place in the same space».
In order to promote healthy living habits, the organization promotes a walk in the late afternoon, at 17 pm, along the riverside of Portimão, starting next to the Museum.
Within the scope of health literacy, the Physiotherapy team of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service also promotes the exhibition «Physiotherapy after stroke», on display at the Hospital Units of Portimão and Lagos.
