72-year-old man dies after car crashes into the Arade river in Mexilhoeira da Carregação

The victim was rescued from the waters of the river.

A 72-year-old man of Portuguese nationality died yesterday after the vehicle he was traveling in fell into the water in the Arade river, next to the ramp of the Calhau pier, in Mexilhoeira da Carregação, in the municipality of Lagoa.

The alert was received at 21:10, through the GNR, having sent elements of the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Portimão. Members of the Lagoa and Portimão Volunteer Firefighters, as well as the GNR and the Judiciary Police, also traveled to the site.

The victim, a 72-year-old Portuguese man, was in the water, already lifeless, having been pulled ashore by the team of divers from the Portimão Volunteer Fire Department.

Death was declared on the spot by the Health Delegate and the body was later transported by the Lagoa Volunteer Firefighters to the Institute of Legal Medicine in Portimão, after investigations by the Judiciary Police.

The car in which the victim was traveling was removed from the water with the support of a Portimão Volunteer Fire Service vehicle.

The Maritime Police Psychology Office was activated to provide support to the victim's family.

The local command of the Maritime Police of Portimão took care of the incident.
