Lagoa Sports Gala honors 127 athletes

Gala took place at the Municipal Auditorium Carlos do Carmo

Last Friday, March 3, the Câmara de Lagoa honored 127 athletes who stood out in the 2020/2021 season, awarding them medals of Sports Merit, gold, silver or bronze. 

The “Sports Gala”, which took place at the Carlos do Carmo Municipal Auditorium, served to honor the athletes, teams, managers and regional and national champion clubs, as well as the athletes who represented the national teams, in the 2020/2021 season. .

According to the Câmara de Lagoa, «42 athletes and managers took to the stage to receive the bronze grade medal of sporting merit, 24 athletes and managers to receive the silver grade medal of sporting merit and 63 athletes and managers to receive the medal of sporting merit grade gold".

In addition to awarding the usual bronze, silver and gold medals, the Municipality of Lagoa carried out a posthumous tribute, awarding the Honorary Distinction for Dedication to Public Service to the employee António Jorge Diogo Lamy, namely in the service of sport.

The distinction was received by the son.

The Sports Merit Recognition Award, namely the Career Award, was awarded to Francisco Batista, the Individual Award for Female Athlete of the Year was awarded to Beatriz Cintra (Sailing), the Individual Award for Male Athlete of the Year was awarded to Bernardo Atilano ( ACD Che Lagoense), the Individual Coach of the Year Award was awarded to Dalila Belém (ACD Che Lagoense), the Individual Manager of the Year Award was awarded to José Armando Silva (ACD Che Lagoense), the Event of the Year Award was at Prova de Mar “Jorge Lamy” (Lagoa Académico Clube), the Collective Team of the Year Award was awarded to the senior male team of ACD Che Lagoense and the Collective Club of the Year Award was awarded to ACD Che Lagoense.

The gala was attended by the host and mayor of Lagoa Luís Encarnação, the regional delegate of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ) Custódio Moreno, the president of the Municipal Assembly Águas da Cruz, the president of the Algarve Swimming Association José Perdigão, the members of the municipal executive of Lagoa, the directors of the School Groupings of the municipality, those responsible for the High Performance Support Units at School, those responsible for the security forces, the presidents of Parish Councils and Unions of the Municipality of Lagoa, club directors, athletes and their families.

This year, the Municipality of Lagoa will also honor the athletes, managers and clubs that achieved regional and national titles during the 2021/2022 season.
