Festival of Discoveries and Popular Marches mark spring events in Lagos

Spring will be celebrated in Lagos with various initiatives at the Municipal Library and Cultural Centre, but the highlight is the return of the Festival of Discoveries and Popular Marches.

Before closing for works, which will take place between May and October, the Cultural Center of Lagos hosts several shows: “Two Persons and a Single Island” (AORCA, 11 April), “Ká S'Tamos de Novo” (Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lagos, 13th to 15th April), Revolutions (Repeated Question, 22nd April), “Who saw you and who sees you – Tribute to Chico Buarque” (24th April), “Dance to Art” (Association of Dança de Lagos, 28th and 29th April), “C. Celeste and the First Virtue” (May 13) and “Orquestra de Jazz com Paula Oliveira” (May 14).

In terms of exhibitions, it will be possible to enjoy the free exhibitions “Ruy de Carvalho – Histórias Contados” (until April 15th), “Step by Step” (Pedro Correia, until May 6th), “D. Sebastião in the History of Lagos” (until 6th May) and “Who saw you and who sees you – Homage to Chico Buarque” (24th April to 13th May).

The Municipal Library of Lagos will also have activities for various age groups, highlighting some of its regular initiatives – “Chega de Saudade. Portugal Hoje.”, with Richard Zimler and Alexandre Quintanilha (April 15) and Francisco George (June 10), a new Reading Club dedicated to the theme “11 books, 11 women” with writer João Ricardo Pedro (April 23 , 13th May and 10th June), the 16th Festival of Italian Cinema (16th to 19th May), “Loose Conversations”, with Ana Mesquita (21st May), “Out of the Current. Connect!”, with Tomás Adrião (May 27), and “Dialogues from the South: Happening in the South, about the South, with Southern Landscapes”, with Olinda Beja, Heduardo Kiesse and Luís d'Almeida (May 27 ).

In terms of sports, the 1st edition of the Lagos Bike Adventure (April 14th to 16th), the 18th edition of the Terras do Infante Speed ​​Skating Tournament (April 14th to 16th), the Veterans Tournament – Cidade de Lagos (Municipal Stadium, April 29th to 1st) and two more events of the international GC32 Racing Tour tournament in the city bay – Lagos Cup from June 21st to 25th and World Cup from July 10th to 14th.

But this spring, all roads lead to an authentic journey to the times of the Discoveries and of D. Sebastião. Taking advantage of the 450th anniversary of Lagos becoming a City, this will be the theme of the 11th edition of the Discoveries Festival to be held at Praça do Infante and Jardim da Constitution from 4th to 7th May. Also returning are the Popular Marches that will dress Praça do Infante in light, color and music, from the 10th to the 12th of June.

Also noteworthy in this new quarter is the 11th Festival Verão Azul, by Casa Branca (April 6th to 8th at the Cultural Centre, LAC and Clube Artístico Lacobrigense), the Folar and Handicrafts Fair of Barão de São João (7th to 9th de Abril), the “Easter Oratory”, by Questão Repetida (Church of S. Sebastião, April 15), the Commemorations of April 25, 1974 and the XXXI Festival of Civil Bands by the Sociedade Filarmónica Lacobrigense 1.º de Maio (June 3rd).
