The Chamber of Faro approved, this Monday, March 27, financial support to MAPS — Movement to Support the Problem of AIDS, to RIAS – Center for the Recovery and Research of Wild Animals, to the PAS Association — Ana Sanona Project and to the Portuguese Red Cross (Delegation in Faro).

In the case of MAPS, the support from the municipality is intended for two different purposes: the first relates to the costs of the monthly rent of the “Domus Project — Emergency Accommodation Center”, social equipment intended for the temporary accommodation of people in emergency situations. of the homeless and the development of activities with a view to the social inclusion of these citizens.

Thus, the municipality renews the aid to this institution (as has been happening since 2020), providing (with retroactive effects to 01/01/2023 and ending on 31/12/2024) the monthly cost of 3.365,20 euros that corresponds to the current income value.

«With the signing of this new protocol, the Municipality will have five reserved spaces available in temporary accommodation, to respond to its needs», says the Chamber of Deputies. Faro.

The second objective, which is set out in a specific protocol, relates to the one-off financial allocation of an amount of 24.220,12 euros that is intended for food support to individuals and families in a situation of economic need.

MAPS has registered, due to the current socio-economic crisis, a high number of requests for support, having, in one year, distributed 34.537 meals, benefiting an average of 28 people with food support and other types of urgent needs.

In the case of RIAS – Center for the Recovery and Research of Wild Animals, the municipality will guarantee annual financial support of 2.500 euros.

Associação PAS — Projeto Ana Sanona, a non-profit association based in Faro since 2018, promotes until the 1st of April, in various locations in the municipality of Faro, the initiative “If my Selves spoke…”, an activity that will include an exhibition at the IPDJ/Faro, gatherings, among other moments, with the aim of helping to lower the statistical rates of cases reported as “mental illness”.

In this context, the municipality granted occasional financial support of 559,35 euros.

Finally, the municipality decided to approve a cooperation protocol with the Portuguese Red Cross (Delegation of Faro), which involves providing a special vehicle to transport students with individual special needs. Through the transfer of the vehicle, the Red Cross is obliged to transport, under the coordination of the Division of Education and Transport Authority, of the Municipality of Faro, students under these conditions, up to a maximum of 12.

For this purpose, the municipality will cover all expenses up to a value of 18 thousand euros per year.

«The Municipality has, since I have the honor of chairing the executive, sought to support all the institutions of the municipality, namely those that provide relevant services to the community, in different areas, but that offer important answers and training so that we are a more inclusive community and respectful of the other and of nature and these supports, which we have now sanctioned, are proof of that», says Rogério Bacalhau, president of the municipality.
