In all, there were 1200 people who reported to the IPMA that they felt the earthquake

Not an hour had passed since the shock and already more than 500 people had informed the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) that they had felt the 3.7 earthquake on the Richter scale recorded this morning, at 3:35 am, with an epicenter 4 kilometers northeast of Albufeira and about 29 km deep.

In total, there were about 1200 people who filled out the macroseismic questionnaire online, to testify that they felt this earthquake, five hundred of which in the first hour after the earthquake, revealed the IPMA.

This earthquake, which did not cause damage, «was felt with maximum intensity IV-V (MM56) in the municipalities of Albufeira and Loulé, and with lesser intensity in several other locations in an area covering the municipalities of Faro, Lagoa, Portimão and Silves».

According to reports from readers of the Sul Informação, which was the first newspaper to report the earthquake, at 3:41 am, a few minutes after it occurred, the earthquake was felt in the areas of Lagoa, Praia do Carvoeiro, Ferragudo, Portimão, Monchique, Silves, São Bartolomeu de Messines, São Marcos da Serra , Armação de Pêra, Albufeira, Paderne, Loulé, Almancil, Vilamoura, São Brás de Alportel, Faro, Montenegro, Olhão and Lagos.

There are also people who felt it further north, in Alentejo, namely in the areas of Ourique and Almodôvar.

If you felt the earthquake, you can still help IPMA, which wants to map the extent of the effects of the earthquakes felt, by filling out a short questionnaire, available here.
