Two boats suspected of drug trafficking seized off the coast of the Algarve

Two high-speed speedboats, suspected of being used for drug trafficking, were seized in the early hours of this Wednesday, March 1st, off the coast of the Algarve. 

This joint operation, by the Navy, the National Maritime Authority and the Air Force, also resulted in the identification of four men, Spanish, aged between 33 and 55 years.

The action took place around 80 nautical miles south of the Algarve, equivalent to around 148 kilometres.

«One of the approaches was carried out by means of the Navy, operated by Marines and the other was carried out by the National Maritime Authority, through elements of the Maritime Police», explain the authorities.

The boats and men were taken to the port of Faro.

Moreover, on the afternoon of this Wednesday, March 1st, Helena Carreiras, Minister of National Defence, will visit, in Porto de Faro, the means involved in the fight against drug trafficking in the Algarve, an activity that has seen an increase.
