Cineteatro Louletano hosts Companhia Olga Roriz, theater about Clarice Lispector and “A Garota Não”

There is a lot to choose from

Dance, with Companhia Olga Roriz, music with “A Garota Não” and a theater about Clarice Lispector. In April, there is no shortage of reasons to go to Cineteatro Louletano.

The month kicks off with music, with a concert by one of the world's best piano performers, as part of the VII Algarve International Piano Festival.

This is Kristina Miller, a Russian-German pianist who won first prize at the International Piano Festival in Berlin, in 1999, and 2nd place in St. Petersburg, in 2000. Kristina brings to Cineteatro a repertoire with Bach-Busoni, Scriabin and Rachmaninov, Chopin, Rosenblatt and Strauss-Cziffra: it will be on the 2nd of April, Sunday, at 17 pm.

On the 6th, Thursday, “Estrada de Terra” arrives, a play by A Turma, with text and staging by Tiago Correia.

On Tuesday the 11th, there will be another session of French Cinema, this time with “Un Vrai Bonhomme”, by Benjamin Parent.

It will be at 21:00, in the Auditorium of Solar da Música Nova, in a cycle co-organized by Alliance Française Algarve.

From the 13th to the 16th, in Loulé (starts earlier in Lagos, on the 6th of April), the Festival Verão Azul, a co-production of Cineteatro Louletano with music, dance, performance, clubbing, conferences and concerts.

In 2023, this festival enters its 11th edition, promoting the transdisciplinarity of contemporary arts and occupying several spaces in the city, among them, Bafo de Baco, Casa do Meio-Dia, 8100 Café, Alfaia and of course, Cineteatro Louletano .

From the 17th to the 19th of April, as part of the celebrations of the 25th of April, “Aerograma Liberdade”, by Catarina Moura, arrives, a mediation activity for pre-school and 1st cycle schools, which takes place in the Auditorium of the Convent of Espírito Santo .

Also starting on the 17th, but with two sessions for families (on the 30th of April, at 10 am and 00 am), appears “The Orquestra”, a show by Teatro do Eléctrico aimed especially at children and young people. “The Orchestra” starts at EB11 D. Dinis schools in Quarteira and at EBI Prof. Sebastião Teixeira, in Salir, based on the works of various authors such as Prokofiev, Saint-Saëns, Tchaikovsky, Alexandre Dumas, Paul Dukas, Goethe, Benjamin Britten and Mozart, in a creation and staging by Ricardo Neves-Neves.

In all, 40 shows are planned and as many workshops, aimed at students.

Another mediation action – also linked, like “Aerograma”, to the 25th of April – is carried out by Afonso Dias, singer and constituent deputy.

It is called “The Principle of Equality” and aims to understand what democracy says to today's young people. Afonso Dias is committed to building: the city, society, the public space in which each one of us – young people included – must play a fundamental role. “The Principle of Equality” will take place at Laura Ayres Secondary School from the 17th to the 28th of April, in Quarteira.

To celebrate the 93rd anniversary of the Cineteatro Louletano, a concert by the Clã is planned, at 21:00 on the 19th, with the participation of the musicians Al-Fanfare.

On the 22nd of April, Saturday, at 21:00, there is a theater, with the play “Eu sou Clarice”, by Rita Calçada Bastos.

This is a co-production of Cineteatro Louletano with São Luiz Teatro Municipal and the support of RTP, which starts from the life and work of writer Clarice Lispector, in a dialogue between actress Carla Maciel (Clarice) and her “creator”, Rita Calçada Bastos.

On the 24th, also at 21 pm, “A Garota Não” invites Luca Argel to the stage of Cineteatro Louletano.

On the 25th, with free admission, but at the Cerca do Convento do Espírito Santo, another commission, with a well-known name in the Portuguese music scene: Janita Salomé. In this special concert in April, Janita is accompanied by a “tailor-made” repertoire and a pianist with an impossible talent to measure: Rúben Alves, a jazz musician who has released several albums and has played with countless top artists. in Portugal. The concert is at 19 pm.

Almost closing, on the 29th of April at 21 pm, one of the great names in dance in Portugal. The Olga Roriz Company will make an absolute national premiere, in Loulé, with the play “The time when we didn't know anything about each other”, on this World Dance Day.

The contemporary ballet, which will include previously selected people from the community, is based on the homonymous work by Peter Handke, from 1992, a piece originally composed of 450 members. The piece, a co-production by CTL, is the result of a residency in Loulé, over two weeks in April, and its main objective, according to the choreographer, is to reflect on what has changed (or not) in the world since the 90s, when of the premiere of the German play. A show not to be missed on World Dance Day.

At the end of the month, on International Jazz Day, a concert by LUME: Lisbon Underground Music Ensemble is planned, a project created and directed by pianist Marco Barroso, with an ensemble of 15 instrumentalists.

It will take place on the 30th, Sunday, at 17 pm, at the Cineteatro Louletano.
