Mayor of VRSA wants urgent construction of a roundabout on the EN125 at the intersection of Santa Rita

For this Saturday, the 25th, a clarification session is scheduled at the headquarters of the Parish Council of Vila Nova de Cacela

Álvaro Araújo, mayor of Vila Real de Santo António, met this Thursday, March 23, by videoconference, with the Secretary of State for Infrastructure to «find a solution for the intersection of Santa Rita (Nora), on the EN125, whose accesses were forbidden by the concessionaire».

For the mayor, «the definitive measure to increase the safety of motorists and pedestrians in that location involves the urgent construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Santa Rita, as is actually foreseen in the global requalification plan of that road, and not by the partial closure of the accesses , with obvious losses for the population and companies».

According to the circulation model now defined, it is necessary to travel more than 7 kilometers to make a U-turn (safely, at the nearest roundabouts) to enter or exit the main access to the village of Santa Rita whenever such a maneuver involves turning on the left or crossing the main road.

This change has already led to protests from the population, who claim to have been aggrieved by the option implemented by the concessionaire.

In this sequence, and with a view to mitigating problems in the short term, the City Council will present a set of alternative proposals that may include the placement of speed reducing devices, changing the maximum speed of circulation in the place or even the installation of traffic lights. .

This Thursday's meeting was also attended by the head of the Municipal Works and Public Space division of the VRSA City Council and a local businesswoman.

Moreover, for this Saturday, the 25th, a clarification session is scheduled at the headquarters of the Parish Council of Vila Nova de Cacela.
