The mayor also took the opportunity to meet with two of the deputies elected by the PS for the Algarve (Luis Graça and Jorge Botelho

Luis Alberto, president of the Parish Council of Ferragudo, was heard this Friday, March 25, by the Economy, Innovation, Public Works and Housing Commission, in the Assembly of the Republic, as a signer of the petition "Against the increase in capacity of the cruise port of Portimão".

The mayor took the opportunity to present the reasons for the petition that wants to suspend the widening of the navigation channel, while there is no environmental impact study and an economic-financial study of the operation of the cruise port.

The petition of November 4, 2020, with 4392 signatures, was based on the August public consultation, which proposed expanding the navigation channel, with two rotation zones of 500 meters, receiving cruises of up to 334 meters in length.

The deputies noted the evolution of the assumptions for safeguarding the heritage, cultural, archaeological and environmental values contained in the TUA (Single Environmental Title) which came to eliminate one of the maneuvering basins, opposite Praia Grande, creating a deceleration zone, reducing to 272 meters the ships received, as well as adapting the works to the possibility of building the future Marina of Ferragudo, thus implementing protection measures for the Fort of S João do Arade.

The parliamentarians referred to the APS – Administration of the Ports of Sines and the Algarve “the constitution of the economic and financial study, equating the possible need to prepare an environmental study of the operation of the cruise port”.

The mayor also took the opportunity to meet with two of the deputies elected by the PS for the Algarve (Luis Graça and Jorge Botelho), «having reiterated the need for investment in the village, so that it can be preserved and requalified», also inviting them to a visit.
