“As Mulheres do Alto”, a community theater play by the José Pinto Contreiras House-Museum Association (ACMJPC), will be presented at the Parish Council Hall of Santa Bárbara de Nexe on the 1st of April, at 16 pm.
In October, the ACMJPC, in partnership with the Parish Council of Santa Bárbara de Nexe and the Coletivo Janela Aberta Teatro (JAT), started a community theater experience in Gorjões.
The initiative obtained initial funding from the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, with the project «The Construction of Lugar do Alto in the Parish of Santa Bárbara de Nexe».
The community work, which brought together about nine female members of the community, started from personal and social memories and texts written by local historians, and was built with the participants' own experiences, in a process of cultural training and qualification.
The result, presented on the 28th and 29th of January last, in Gorjões, with the title «As Mulheres do Alto», had a full room.
The play, lasting 30 minutes, is staged by Ilda Nogueira and Graça Madeira and sound design/lighting by Joana Cabrita Martins (JAT). The representation is by Ilda Nogueira, Graça Madeira, Natividade Martins, Dina Guerreiro, Délia Contreiras, Idalécia Gonçalves, Laurentina Cristina, Bernardina Silva, Maria da Glória Guerreiro, Lénia Guerreiro and the young Raquel Guerreiro.
