Work in the area surrounding the Casa do Sal de Castro Marim was inaugurated

Another initiative that was part of the Government program + Next

Ana Abrunhosa, the Minister of Territorial Cohesion, was on Wednesday, March 1st, in Castro Marim, to participate in the inauguration session of the requalification work in the area surrounding Casa do Sal, within the scope of the Government + Next initiative.

This was, according to the Câmara de Castro Marim, «one of the most desired urban interventions» in the town.

“We finally got here. Our apologies to the local population, for the delay in this work, which has suffered several vicissitudes, from the boycott proposed by an opposition majority, passing through the harmful effect of two years of pandemic and even the effects of the war here were felt", he said in the occasion Francisco Amaral, mayor of Castro Marim City Council.

The mayor emphasized the importance of European funds in the local investment strategy, highlighting "the requalification of the Castle, the renovation of the village's water and basic sanitation network, which is over 60 years old, and the advancement of the Sotavento Algarvio Business Area, taking advantage of the proximity to Spain and the centrality between the airports of Seville and Faro».

Ana Abrunhosa underlined, for her part, a requalification work «that gives back to the castromarinenses a noble area of ​​the village, that the time had let decharacterize».

«Castro Marim is not just a municipality with a past, but a territory with a future», said the minister, guaranteeing that in the next framework of community support there will also be the effort and sensitivity to understand the specificities of the territory of Castro Marim, a since «that is also why the European funds exist, so that we treat differently what is different».

With the presence of the Minister of Territorial Cohesion at the inauguration of the Requalification of the Surroundings of Casa do Sal, the castromarine executive took the opportunity to present her the intervention strategy in Castro Marim Castle, «whose next and urgent stage involves an investment of around 10 million euros and which is foreseen in 3 phases: requalification of the ring road; consolidation of the walled structure; rehabilitation/requalification of the interior of the castle», according to the Chamber.

The requalification of the Casa do Sal Surroundings represented a total investment of 1 million euros, a work financed under the CRESC ALGARVE 2020 Program [Investment Priority 6.5], a project included in the Action Plan – PARU, supported by Portugal and the Union European Union, 65% co-financed by the ERDF.

The president of CCDR Algarve, José Apolinário, the regional director of Culture of the Algarve, Adriana Nogueira, the councilors of the Municipality of Castro Marim, Filomena Sintra and João Pereira, and the president of the Parish Council of Castro were also present at the inauguration of the work.
