The preservation of the Ria Formosa marine meadows will be highlighted at the Algarve Trade Experience, a meeting for the wine and spirits sector taking place on Monday and Tuesday, 6th and 7th March, in Faro.

The Riverside Walk Faro and the Teatro das Figuras, next to the Ria Formosa, will be the stages of the initiative, which this year is in its 9th edition, with more than 6000 registered visitors and professionals, Rita Soares, from the organization, told Lusa.

«Behind the theater there is an area overlooking the beautiful Ria Formosa, where there are some marine meadows that are the scope of research projects at the University of the Algarve», he said, stressing that among the planned initiatives is the tasting of a gin made from seaweed, in partnership with the Center for Marine Sciences at the Algarve university.

The event will be located "right in front of the sea meadows" and the organization intends, in this way, to show visitors this ecosystem and the importance it has for "tourism in the Algarve, the quality of the beaches or the fish", he underlined.

The same source stressed that, between 18:00 and 21:00, the event can be visited by the general public, with the entrance fee (25 euros) reverting to the marine conservation projects of that research center of the University of Algarve.

Among the participants are 500 national and international brands from the drinks sector that the organization seeks to encourage, «through the theme, location and all the creativity», to contribute «also news for the sector and trends», he noted.

«We want international and national novelties to come before the tourism season and also be able to be an engine for the development of tourism and so that all these customers – the event is 90% dedicated to the trade – can learn from these brands, from these new trends and from the ways of serving», he justified.

Restaurants, bars or hotels can then «customize the offer» in their services and in the cultural area, a sector that will also be present at the event with theatre, circus and performing arts, with Portuguese artists, added the head of Garrafeira Soares, who promotes the event .

«We are going to have many companies, all of them from the Algarve, with a lot of dynamics, linked to the street circus and the performing arts», he pointed out, arguing that the hotel industry can thus get to know the cultural offer available and, «in this aspect, also be innovative and differentiator”.

The 9th edition of the Algarve Trade Experience takes place on Monday and Tuesday, from 14 pm to 00 pm, with the general public being able to access the event, subject to payment of entry, from 21 pm.
