1562 students will plant trees during “Green Week” in Lagos

The motto is “Knowing, caring and valuing Nature”

The “Green Week” in Lagos runs from today, the 10th until the 24th of March, with the main activity being the planting of trees in various parts of the municipality, involving public and private school establishments, from pre-school to teaching secondary, and also IPSS.

According to the Chamber, this year around 1562 students accepted the challenge and will join volunteers, users of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia (SCML), CASLAS and Sapadores Florestais homes in a tree planting campaign that will take place in 12 locations in four parishes, as well as some SCML schools and homes.

The Municipality of Lagos has prepared a series of initiatives dedicated to the Environment whose main objective is to «involving the whole community to make Lagos greener», on the occasion of World Tree Day (March 21) and World Water Day (March 22) .

With the motto “Knowing, caring for and valuing Nature”, the initiatives are in line with the guidelines of the Blue Flag Program (ABAE) and with the projects currently underway with school groups.

Also scheduled for this week are an exhibition of works by users of Samta Casa da Misericórdia at the Santo Amaro Market, activities at the Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos, guided tours, offering an ecological gift in the service areas of Lagos City Council and Parish Councils and the adhesion and promotion of the environmental awareness campaigns “H2Off – Time to close the tap” and “Earth Hour”.
