Tavira makes a «positive assessment» of the Physical Activity Promotion Plan

Balance is made after the first quarter of activities

The Municipality of Tavira makes a «positive assessment» of the Municipality's Plan for the Promotion of Physical Activity, after the first quarter of activities. 

The plan, which aims to encourage healthy living habits and the practice of sports in the community, currently has 2335 people enrolled.

In an investment of more than 140 thousand euros, this Plan aims, according to the municipality, to respond to the guidelines of the National Strategy for the Promotion of Physical Activity, Health and Well-Being, and for its dynamization protocols were signed with a associations: Casa do Povo de Santo Estêvão, Clube de Vela de Tavira, Clube Bike Team Tavira, Ria – Aqua Clube Tavira and Tavira Natação Clube. The Plan also relies on the collaboration of 37 local entities.

In this sense, in order to coordinate all projects and provide advice and referrals to the population, the Municipal Office for the Promotion of Physical Activity in the Municipality is available, at Pavilhão Municipal Dr. Eduardo Mansinho.

In this Plan there are free projects for all tastes and ages.

“Crescer em Movimento”, which is aimed at children and young people, from pre-school to 17 years old, includes projects such as “Infantários em Movimento”, for kindergarten and pre-school students, “Move-te na Escola ”, for students in the 1st Cycle of the municipality, and “Desportiv@mente”, aimed at children and young people hosted by social solidarity institutions in the municipality.

“Põe-te a Mexe” was designed for adults between 18 and 55 years old. It includes the Gimnasticando projects (biweekly gymnastics classes
maintenance and aerobics) and XutosN'Bola (informal futsal groups).

“Viva +”, for adults over 55 years of age, includes ActiveSenior (biweekly maintenance and gerontomotricity gymnastics classes given at Homes and Day Centers in the municipality), Hidro Sénior (aquagym activities at Municipal Swimming Pools).

“Physical Activity and Health” was designed for special populations associated with needs in the health area and includes the projects “Adapted Physical Activity”, GATO “project in collaboration with the Help Group for Drug Addicts”, “Diabetes on the Move”, “ Proximity Respiratory Rehabilitation” and “Fighting Obesity”.

The Todos a Caminhar and Tavira conVid'a a Pedalar initiatives are transversal to all programmes. The first project consists of weekly races, the second of guided mountain bike tours, both on a pre-defined calendar that encompasses all parishes in the municipality.

The Municipality's Physical Activity Promotion Plan runs until June.
