Four men accused of participating in attacks on the GNR and PSP in Olhão

Situation dates back to March 2021

The case dates back to March 2021. A group, with more than 15 people, assaulted a GNR military and a PSP agent, in Olhão, after also hitting a 19-year-old. Four men have now been charged by the Public Ministry (MP).

The men, aged 61, 56, 35 and 26, are accused of various crimes: resistance and coercion to authority, offense to qualified serious physical integrity, damage and injuries.

On that night in March, this group attacked a young man with “punches and kicks”. The 19-year-old boy still tried to flee, but was "pursued by the defendants and the other individuals in the group", says the MP.

On the run, in a street in Olhão, the victim found a car patrol from the National Republican Guard (GNR), in a characterized car.

The military, who were in uniform, had been called to return a lost document.

The victim asked the patrol for help, who ordered her to get into the back seat of the GNR vehicle.

However, when they were leaving, the group approached the car, opened the door and attacked the young man again «with punches and kicks».

One of the defendants even immobilized the victim, with a "rear naked choke".

What's more: when they got out of the car, one of the soldiers fired shots into the air, ending up being attacked by one of the defendants.

In the midst of this situation, the victim managed to escape, but the military had to ask the Public Security Police (PSP) for help, which sent two patrol cars.

According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, "the PSP was received with stones and insults from the defendants and other unidentified individuals, with the stones hitting a PSP agent and damaging the vehicles".

As for the other members of the group, they were not identified.
