PSD Portimão proposes IMT and IMI exemption for young people

Party regrets that PS voted against

PSD Portimão presented at the 1st meeting of the 1st Ordinary Session of 2023 of the Municipal Assembly, held on 24 February, a set of measures for youth housing, proposing exemption from IMT and IMI for this age group of the population.

The ideas were presented during the period for motions and recommendation proposals through municipal deputy Raquel Bernardino (current vice-president of JSD/Portimão). However, according to the Social Democratic Party, the suggestions were rejected due to the PS voting against.

The Portimão PSD proposal, presented at the Municipal Assembly, aimed to «encourage young people, through concrete measures, to choose Portimão to settle permanently, thus also boosting the local economy and favoring many other sectors that drive a healthy economic cycle in the municipality", says the party.

The measures presented were the IMI exemption for young people (up to 35 years old and couples up to 38 years old) in the acquisition of their first home up to the asset value of around 200 thousand euros, for a period of 3 years, and 6 years for properties that are within an urban rehabilitation area, and IMT exemption for young people (up to 35 years old and couples up to 38 years old) in the acquisition of the first
housing up to the asset value of around 200 thousand euros.

«The measure we proposed aimed, above all, at a concrete solution to resolve the housing crisis that is being felt, with a strategic vision that promotes the retention of young people in the city, the local economy, the increase in manpower, the that would be beneficial for the development of the municipality and the business fabric. Seeing the lack of concern on the part of the Portimonense executive about the issue of youth housing is regrettable. While the justification is to wait for the measures of the central government, we will know that there is much to be done at the local level», says the PSD Municipal deputy Raquel Bernardino, the youngest elected to the deliberative body of Portimonense.

«I am sorry that, once again, we bring an objective and serious proposal, which would improve conditions and more quality of life for Portimonenses and we see a PS 'afraid' of the opposition to disapprove just for having the PSD logo . It is a PS that assumes that the proposal is good, that they see each other, but that they vote against. If they understand that the proposal is good, they vote against it for fear of what? Politics is to help people and not to vote against what is simply not part of us, democracy in Portimão is not just the Socialist Party, which once again demonstrated authoritarianism and no desire to listen to other political parties», concludes Carlos Gouveia Martins, president of the PSD of Portimão and leader of the Municipal Bench.
