The Vila Real de Santo António PS (VRSA) accuses the PSD, the main opposition party, of wanting to "reverse the process of buying houses that supported 70 households» of the county.

At issue is a position taken by the Social Democrats, who asked for the Housing Minister to be heard in Parliament and cast doubt on the validity of the acquisition process for 70 homes, by the municipality of Vila-Real, under the 1st Law program and with money from the Recovery and Resilience Plan.

For the socialists, the will to reverse the whole process is «the only possible conclusion to be drawn» from the public position assumed by the PSD.

«In fact, this whole disinformation campaign is intended to cover up the harmful action of the public interest carried out by the PSD, when building these houses on land given by the municipality. In this mandate, the municipality acquired houses, at zero cost to the municipality, to restore dignity to these families.
The same families that had already received eviction letters and that one day were abandoned by previous city council executives», accuses the PS of VRSA.

A little over a year into power, in VRSA, the Socialist Party says that «the houses that were acquired by the municipality below the market price and are home to dozens of families from our land».

On the day the keys to these houses were handed over, in December, the socialist Álvaro Araújo, mayor of VRSA for just over a year, revealed to the Sul Informação that «the negotiation was not easy. But, thanks to our persistence and negotiating power, we were able to buy for a price well below what they intended and we defended the public purse, which is very important to us».

Ensuring that the city council executive is focused on solving people's problems «in the field of housing (and in all)», the PS recalls the Local Housing Strategy that was created, «which never existed before and that the PSD was never concerned with enable”.

«The legacy of previous executives is frightening: vacant houses, without decent conditions to live in, overcrowding, extreme poverty and shortages at a social and human level», they accuse.

"The Socialist Party condemns this attitude of the PSD, which every day seeks to prevent the implementation of the change that is already underway", concludes the PS.
