Tanegashima Square lives the “Renaissance of Stone” with new sculpture

The artist takes advantage of the natural color of the stone as paint and uses its natural color as a contrast to the polished and textured stone.

The sculpture “Renascimento da Pedra”, by Brazilian artist Renato Rodyner, has been part of Tanegashima Square, in Vila do Bispo, since last January.

It is a marble sculpture, where the artist takes advantage of the natural color of the stone as paint and uses its natural color as a contrast to the polished and textured stone, thus giving, according to the author, «a rebirth to a stone that was in nature and without life".

The sculpture was donated to the municipality and its inauguration took place on the 22nd of January, in a ceremony that was part of the Municipality Day celebrations, which was attended by the sculptor Renato Rodyner, the mayor Rute Silva, the president of the Municipal Assembly Luciano Rafael, and guests.

The sculptor said that he feels «very proud to have a work of mine in Vila do Bispo and thus register a union between Portugal and Brazil».

Renato Rodyner was born in 1962 in Porto Alegre, Brazil. He has lived in Portugal since 1990, where he has his studio.

With an international career, he has presented his work all over the world, namely in Macau, France, Monaco, Hungary, Spain, New York, Ecuador and Moscow.

He is represented in several collections, such as the Céres Franco Musée, the Water Museum, the Arieiro Islamic Center and the Portuguese Serigraphy Center (Portugal), the Correios Cultural Center (Rio de Janeiro), among others.
