Portimão distributes 86 thousand euros to institutions that provide food support to those in need

To help combat the effects of rising inflation

The Portimão City Council will finance seven social institutions in the municipality with around 86 thousand euros, in total, to reinforce the response capacity and skills of these entities in terms of food support, «in view of the current situation of economic need for families caused by rising inflation".

The amount, which was filed yesterday, Friday, through exceptional collaboration and development protocols, «is intended for operating expenses for the period between January and April of this year and is directly related to the food support provided by the entities involved , given the growing number of requests they have received lately».

The following associations are covered by the protocol signed today: Portimão Delegation of ADRA – Adventist Association for Development, Resources and Assistance (4.550 euros); ACRA – Associação Cultural Recreativa Alvorense 1st of December (10.537,80 euros); Parish Caritas of Nossa Senhora da Conceição (37.276 euros); Portuguese Red Cross – Portimão Delegation (13.698 euros); Flor Amiga Association (6.050 euros); GRATO – Support Group for Drug Addicts (6.680 euros); and Cultural and Social Center of the Parish of Nossa Senhora do Amparo – Portimão (8.000 euros).

The measure «results from the social policies of the municipality and aims to help these entities in the pursuit of their solidarity and intervention objectives with regard to prepared meals and the distribution of food baskets to the most vulnerable population», highlighted Isilda Gomes, mayor of Portimão , at the opening of the protocol signing ceremony.

The president thanked the representatives of the registered associations for "all the work carried out in order to make life easier for those in need, so the funds now made available are intended to help fulfill this noble function of yours".

«We don't want to have people in Portimão going hungry and we must be very attentive to this problem. Fortunately, we are in a position to be able to help those who need it most and, for that, we continue to count on all your commitment», concluded Isilda Gomes.
