The wake and funeral will take place tomorrow at Faro and Évora, respectively

João Falcão Marques, former president of the Farense PS and for many years deputy in the Municipal Assembly of Faro, elected by the Socialists, died yesterday, Thursday, in Faro, at 76 years old.

The body of the politician and businessman, who established himself as an insurance intermediary in the Algarve capital, after years as a senior member of staff at Allianz Portugal, will be in a wake at Igreja dos Capuchos tomorrow, Saturday, the 18th, from 9 am.

At 11 am tomorrow, the celebration of the word will take place in the same church, with the funeral starting from Faro at 12:00, to Cemitério dos Remédios, in Évora, where a celebration will take place, at 15:00, and the funeral, at 16:00.

The announcement was made by his son, João Marques, on the social network Facebook, who described his father with the words «Love, Family, Loyalty, Values, Principles, Solidarity, Friend, Convict, Democrat and Fair».

The Chamber of Faro it has already gone public to express «the deepest regret for the passing of João Manuel Falcão Marques».

«A person of character and convictions, Falcão Marques was deeply committed to his civic and social participation, having contributed decisively to several projects that are still important achievements for the municipality today, having been exemplary in the dedication and selflessness with which he always assumed his civic commitments and politicians and in the affection he has always shown for our city», praised the municipality.

Born in Maia (Porto), where he was born on October 1, 1946, João Manuel Falcão Marques was the second of five brothers and lived for several years in Évora, the city where he married Domítilia Godinho Marques and where their two children were born , Nuno and John.

Previously, he had completed three years of military service in the Overseas War, in Guinea, as a militia lieutenant, «an outstanding experience in his life and from which he returned fully convinced of the ideals of freedom and sovereignty of peoples, a cause to which he deeply and deeply adhered. disinterested", according to the Chamber of Faro.

In Évora, he started by working in the city's Finance department, later joining Mundial Confiança as an insurance professional, a professional activity in which he grew up and to which he dedicated practically his entire career.

From 1981, it reached Faro to run Portugal Previdente in the Algarve, having participated in a committed way in the merger process of this with several other insurers that came to form Allianz Portugal.

With your family life established in Faro, Falcão Marques stood out as a senior member of this company and commercial director, covering in his activity the areas of Portalegre, Seixal, Castelo Branco, Évora, Beja, Algarve and Madeira Island, until his retirement in 2003, regions that remained know deeply and to which he remained strongly attached, also for family reasons.

From 2003, after leaving the company, he established himself as an insurance intermediary in Faro, having trained countless young people for this area of ​​activity over the course of its course and counting on numerous people and companies from the city and region as clients, in addition to the Municipality of Faro.

He continued to work as an insurance professional until he retired more definitively in 2019, his son João Marques being the face of the project's continuity.

Parallel to his professional life, he became interested in civic causes and the struggles of the Socialist Party from a very early age, in which he was active until his death, having stood out as president of the PS Federation of Évora and of the PS council. Faro.

He was also a member of the Municipal Assembly of Faro for three terms, from 1998 to 2009, «a position he always held in favor of the best interests of the municipality».
