Promoting the «exchange of experiences between creatives from the cultural industries» in areas ranging from literature to handicrafts, including cinema, music, fashion or visual arts, is the main objective of the first Cultural and Creative Industries Exhibition Alentejo – Algarve – Andalusia ( MICCAAA), carried out within the scope of the project Magallanes_ICC, which began this Friday, February 23rd, and ends today, the 25th, after sessions in Faro and Alcoutim.

Despite being an Exhibition in which all the activities carried out were open to the public, Joaquim Brandão Pires, first secretary of the Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve (AMAL), the promoter of the Exhibition, explained to the Sul Informação that the main objective is, over these three days, «to put people who work in a more solitary way in contact, to bring them together so that they can share experiences and knowledge and so that they can get to know each other».

On the sidelines of the official inauguration, which took place yesterday, 23rd, at 18 pm, at Club Farense, in Faro, Brandão Pires stressed that «we should try to get people used to consuming cultural products».

In his opinion, this involves developing projects in schools and even creating quotas so that the most disadvantaged people can have access to free tickets.

«I think that shows and culture should be paid for, but there should be a quota for those who have few possibilities and so that certain segments can participate and gain these consumption habits – a consumption that is never excessive».

At a time when the first Magallanes_ICC is coming to an end, Adriana Nogueira, responsible for the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, one of the project's Algarve partners, stressed that this Exhibition «is very important, because it aims to give back to the general population what is being done».

«Magalhães allowed these three regions [Algarve, Alentejo and Andalusia] to realize what they have in common and how they can contribute to mutual knowledge», he concluded.

The official opening ceremony ended with a multidisciplinary performance by Kilavra, with Magalhães as the background theme, which brought together Algarve artists from various areas such as poetry, dance, music and design.

The MICCAAA takes place within the scope of the Magallanes_ICC, a project inspired by the 500th anniversary of Fernão Magalhães' circumnavigation voyage and which aims to be a driver of the Creative Economy, encouraging and providing tools to the Cultural and Creative Industries of the Algarve, Alentejo and Andalusia regions, which include activities related to music , literature, fashion, design, crafts, among many other forms of art.

The Exhibition's programming, organized by AMAL, had the collaboration of the Algarve partners of the Magallanes_ICC, such as the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, the Zer0 Museum, the QRER-Cooperative for the Development of Low Density Territories and other associations that wanted to join this initiative.

The project Magallanes_ICC is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through the Interreg V-Spain-Portugal Program (POCTEP) 2014-2020.
