Loulé hosts the first Participatory Assembly of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

This Wednesday, between 10:00 and 12:00

The first Participatory Assembly in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development will take place this Wednesday, March 1st, between 10 am and 00 pm, in Loulé.

This is a joint initiative of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Commission for Coordination and Regional Development (CCDR) of the Algarve Region, with the collaboration of the Municipality of Loulé.

The Assembly will seek, in agreement with the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, to answer the following questions: “The 2030 Agenda includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which ones do you see as a priority implementation and why?”, “What is the What role can Civil Society play in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda?”, “What are the main obstacles to its multilevel participation (national, regional/local) and what solutions could be implemented to mitigate these obstacles?” and “What measures can be implemented to ensure the effective and timely fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda, both at the national and regional/local levels?”.

On September 25, 2015, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was approved by Resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations.

«This universal agenda, based on 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) subdivided into 169 targets, intended to define an action plan centered on people, the planet, prosperity, peace and partnerships (5P) with the ultimate goal of accelerating sustainable development, without leaving anyone behind», recalls the presidency.

After the first National Voluntary Report (RVN), presented in 2017, Portugal announced its willingness to present a new RVN, at the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, in July 2023.

«The RVN 2023, more than a reflective exercise of collecting and reporting information, intends to critically assess the challenges and progress registered, acting as a catalyst for a new cycle of implementation of the SDGs, at the national and sub-national (regional) level. and local), through an approach at all levels of government and society as a whole», emphasizes the Council of Ministers, reinforcing that «in the context of preparing RVN 2023, the participation and consultation of civil society is essential».
