Inflation retreats for the 3rd consecutive time to 8,4% in January

The year-on-year change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) decreased, for the third consecutive time, to 8,4% in January, a rate lower by 1,2 percentage points than in the previous month, the National Institute of Statistics (INE) reported today. .

"With rounding to one decimal place, this rate is 0,1 percentage points higher than the value of the quick estimate released on January 31, although the difference was actually only 0,03 percentage points", says INE.

In January, the underlying inflation indicator (IPC excluding unprocessed food products and energy) recorded a year-on-year change of 7,0%, a rate lower by 0,3 percentage points than that recorded in December.

The change in the index relating to energy products decreased, also for the third consecutive time, to 7,1% (20,8% in the previous month), with emphasis on the decrease in electricity prices.

On the contrary, the index referring to unprocessed food products registered a variation of 18,5% (0,9 percentage points higher than the value recorded in the previous month).
