From this Friday, the GNR will intensify patrolling and inspection on the roads and carry out an intensive operation related to the use and sale of pyrotechnic articles, within the scope of the “Carnival 2023” operation.

In a statement, the GNR informs that from today until Wednesday, the 22nd, it will also carry out an intensive operation of awareness, patrolling and inspection in places of festivities and commercial establishments where pyrotechnic articles are sold.

The GNR will also carry out inspection actions on the access roads to the main areas where festivities associated with Carnival take place.

The operation aims to prevent "the sale and use of pyrotechnic material, fight crime, contribute to the reduction of road accidents, guarantee the fluidity of traffic and support all citizens".

During the operation, the GNR will also direct prevention and patrol actions for drug trafficking, possession of pyrotechnic material, changes in public order and acts of vandalism.

According to the GNR, road inspection actions will focus, as a priority, on driving under the influence of alcohol and psychotropic substances, dangerous manoeuvres, especially with regard to overtaking, changing direction and giving way.

Excessive speed, driving without a legal license, overcrowding, improper use of mobile phones while driving and non-use or incorrect use of seat belts and/or child restraint systems will also be a priority during the operation.
