Feno, Tiago Nacarato and Orquestra Algarvia mark the schedule of Teatro das Figuras

February will have music, dance and theater

Feno, Tiago Nacarato and Orquestra Clássica do Sul, among other initiatives, mark this month's programming at Teatro Municipal das Figuras (TMF).

This Thursday, February 2nd, the first agenda of the month takes place. The contemporary circus company CAOS Circus Arts presents “Hay”, a project that emerges from research that addresses rural life and the hay process, which is divided into three phases: cutting, drying and baling.

The first weekend is all about music. On Saturday the 4th, Tiago Nacarato presents the album “Peito Aberto”, unapologetically inspired by references from Latin and African cultures, with a touch of world music. On Sunday, February 5th, it's the turn of Southern Classical Orchestra present its new principal conductor, Martim Sousa Tavares, who proposes a program that contains some of the main lines of what will be the artistic and musical orientation of the Orchestra for the next three years.

On the 9th of February, Teatro das Figuras presents the play “Jesus, o Filho”, with text and staging by Elmano Sancho. The central character – who is not Jesus, but who is still a “messiah” – speaks without artifice, revealing his courage and intelligence.

According to the TMF, he is “an ordinary man who does not allow himself to be influenced, who does not change his speech or tone of voice. Who is firm and resistant, relentless in his criticism of the world. This piece is part of a triptych where the show “Maria, a Mãe” has already been presented and in June of this year the play “José, o Pai” will be presented».

On the 11th, emphasis is placed on classical music. Jill Lawson, internationally renowned pianist, performs in concert, within the scope of the “Trio de Damas” project, to honor Helena Sá e Costa, grande dame of pianism in Portugal. The pianist, accompanied by the Ensemble Musicamerata, will present and defend a monographic program, with works by the composers Gabrieli, Mozart, Bach, and Lopes-Graça, highlighting the presentation of the Concertino for piano, strings, brass and percussion – a work dedicated to Helena Sá e Costa, with an unusual instrumental training, which makes this event an action of great artistic and cultural impact.

The show “Cabeças de Vento” invites families in the Algarve to sing and dance on the 19th of February. The creators Inês Pupo and Gonçalo Pratas seek to promote contact with nature, its knowledge, respect and protection.

On the 23rd, dance is represented with the dance-theater show “Jungle Book reimagined”, by the English company Akram Khan Company.

The choreographer and his team have reinvented Mowgli's journey through the eyes of a refugee, trapped in a world ravaged by the impact of climate change. “Jungle Book reimagined” is addressed to all generations as a step to remember, relearn and reimagine a new world together.

«A unique opportunity to witness in Portugal the work of one of the most relevant dance companies today», says TMF.

This play is on a national tour, debuting at the Centro Cultural Vila Flor, in Guimarães, passing through the Centro Cultural de Belém, in Lisbon, and ending the national tour at Teatro das Figuras.

On the 25th of February, the musician, producer and composer Renato Júnior brings together on the same stage some of the best female voices of today.

For about an hour and a half, the guest singers parade on stage, entering the musical universe of the album “Uma Mulher Não Chora”, each one of them imprinting their fingerprint on the composer's music. It is a tribute to Women in the XNUMXst Century, with the participation of Ana Bacalhau, Rita Redshoes, Katia Guerreiro, Viviane, Sofia Escobar, Luanda Cozetti, Patricia Antunes and Patricia Silveira.

In addition to the stage programme, TMF continues its training component in scenic areas with two workshops.

On the 10th, 11th and 12th, Francisco Luís Pereira, professor of theater at the Superior School of Theater and Cinema, will conduct a staging workshop on the XNUMXth, XNUMXth and XNUMXth with the aim of testing and destroying an argumentative dialogue and using practical moments, a number of preconditioning notions in the work of scenic creation, questioning assumptions, the distribution, the creative distribution between director, author, actor...

From the 24th to the 26th, it is Armando Nascimento Rosa's turn to take over the Theater Writing Workshop. The playwright, essayist and singer-songwriter intends to challenge participants to the imaginative experience of written creation destined for the theater scene.
