Ruy de Carvalho's two-piece tour passes through Albufeira, Lagos and Beja

Ruy de Carvalho has a varied career in theatre, cinema and television and is the active actor with the longest artistic career.

Close to 30 dates until September are included in the national tour of two plays starring Portuguese actor Ruy de Carvalho, sources from the producer and the actor's daughter and agent told Lusa.

“Ruy, the story due”, a show in which the actor about to celebrate 96 years of age tells “unpublished stories of his long and inspiring” career of almost 81 years, and “The Mousetrap”, by Agatha Christie, are the shows with that the dean of Portuguese actors will tour Portugal in a total of almost 30 shows until September.

Barcelos, where today he will represent “Ruy, the due story” is the next tour date for the actor, who debuted as an amateur in 1942 and as a professional in 1947.

Premiered on January 18, at the Taguspark auditorium, in Porto Salvo, Oeiras, the play encourages the public to ask the actor questions, making it “more than a show, but an intimate conversation between friends”, according to the producer.

Directed by Paulo Sousa Costa, “Ruy, the due story”, in which Ruy de Carvalho performs on stage with Luís Pacheco, has a text by Paulo Coelho, scenography and costumes by Anne Carestiato and Fernanda Dias, light design by Félix Feliciano and José Teles in scenography assistance.

Afterwards, Ruy de Carvalho will return to the Tagus Park auditorium, on the 25th and 26th, for two performances of the show, according to the producer, with sessions on the 08th, 09th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 28th and 29th of March, 05th, April 18th and 19th, and May 06th, 07th, 13th, 14th, 20th and 21st, according to the 'online' ticket office.

On March 01st, the day he turns 96, Ruy de Carvalho will be at the Porto Coliseum with “A Mousetrap”, in a show that is already sold out.

With “A Mousetrap”, a play that started as radio theater and premiered in 1952 in London, and which Ruy de Carvalho starred in the 1960s, the actor will be in S. João da Madeira (March 26), at Teatro Politeama , in Lisbon (April 03rd, 09th, 10th, 16th, 17th, 24th, 25th and May 01st), and April 15th, in Beja.

The play that Ruy de Carvalho performed again nearly 50 years later, this time staged by Paulo Sousa Costa, premiered at Politemama in February 2022.

With scenography and costumes by Fred Klaus, “The mousetrap” has interpretations by Ruy de Carvalho (Major Metcalf), Daniel Cerca Santos (Sergeant Trotter), Elsa Galvão (Mrs. Boyle), Filipe Crawford (Mr. Paravicini), Henrique de Carvalho (Christopher Wren), Luís Pacheco (Giles Ralston, character played by Ruy de Carvalho in the 1960s staging), Sara Cecília (Miss Casewell) and Sofia de Portugal (Mollie Ralston).

The play “Ruy, the due story” will be presented in Ponte de Lima (March 04th), Mealhada (March 18th), Lagos (March 25th), Leiria (April 13th), Figueira da Foz (June 10th), Alcanena (August 16th), Albufeira (August 19) and, in Anadia, in September, the producer and the actor's daughter and agent, Paula Carvalho, were added to Lusa.

Póvoa de Varzim and Póvoa de Lanhoso, on the 26th and 27th of May, are other locations where the play “should be performed”, indicated Paula Carvalho.

Born on March 01, 1927, in Lisbon, Ruy de Carvalho made his debut in 1942, as an amateur, in the Grupo da Mocidade Portuguesa, in the play “O Jogo para o Natal de Cristo”, staged by Francisco Ribeiro (Ribeirinho) .

His professional debut would take place five years later, in the comedy “Rapazes de Hoje”, by Roger Ferdinand, at the Teatro Nacional D. Maria II, in Lisbon, in the company Rey Colaço/Robles Monteiro, concessionaire of that theater in Rossio between 1929 and 1964 .

The actor was at the theater's relaunch when it reopened its doors in 1978, having been part of the resident company until its extinction in 2000.

With a vast curriculum of awards, decorations and honors, the next one to be held on April 23, in Setúbal, by the Setúbal municipality and the local Lions Club delegation, Ruy de Carvalho has had a varied career in theatre, cinema and television and is the Active actor with longest acting career.
