«Some of the best athletes in the world» will compete in another edition of the International Cross of Almond Blossom, which will take place this Sunday, February 26th, at the Açoteias track, in Albufeira, from 10h00.
The two main races, women's and men's, take place at 11:25 and 12:25 respectively.
In what will be the last race of the World Circuit of the World Athletics Cross Country Tour and the only Cross Country competition with WA points for the world ranking in national territory, athletes who are disputing the world circuit will participate, among them, Yann Schrub ( FRA), who already has a victory in one of the stages of the World Tour this season (Hannut – BEL) and the athlete Likina Amebaw Ayel (ETH), winner of the 2021 edition and 2nd place in the 2022 edition of Cross das Amendoeiras.
«The Portuguese highlights in this 46th edition go to the current national cross-country champion, the athlete from Sport Lisboa e Benfica, Samuel Barata, and Rui Pinto from Sporting Clube de Portugal, who recently shone in the Barcelona Half Marathon, as well as the young promise Barbara Neiva, from Sport Lisboa e Benfica», according to the Albufeira Chamber.
The 46th edition of the International Cross of Almond Trees in Blossom is also part of the Tournament/Regional Cross Country Championship and the 20th Young Cross Country of Areias de S. João. The event is jointly organized by the Athletics Association of the Algarve and the Municipality of Albufeira and has the support of the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth and the Algarve Tourism Board.
