National Professions Championship brings together 357 young people in Portimão

Championship takes place between the 7th and 12th of March

This year, Portimão will be the stage for the National Professions Championship, which will bring together 357 young people in this Algarve city, between the 7th and 12th of March, who will compete with each other, in more than 50 professions, in a series of tests that simulate real situations of work.

Among the participants will be 13 young people from training centers in the region – Luso-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Centro DUAL Portimão, CEFP Faro, CEFP Barlavento, Dr. Laura Ayres, School of Hospitality and Tourism of Portimão and School of Hotel and Tourism of Vila Real de Santo António – in the professions of kitchen, hotel reception, accounting and management,
animation/video, landscape gardening, among others.

In a kind of professional Olympic Games, participants are highly competitive athletes in the professional areas they represent. The competition is aimed at trainees between the ages of 17 and 25, who have completed or are attending a qualification course in the area of ​​education and vocational training.

To get here, competitors went through pre-selection stages and regional competitions and will now compete, among themselves, for the title of national champion in each profession.

Medal winners may come to represent Portugal at the 8th edition of the European Professions Championship, which will take place in September in Poland, and at the 46th edition of the World Professions Championship, which will take place in Lyon, France, in September 2024.

In the last Professional World Championship, Special Edition, Portugal won two gold, two silver, and four Excellence medals.

Seomara Cabrita, the 21-year-old girl who studied Aesthetics at the Center for Employment and Professional Training in Barlavento, was one of the winners of the Medal of Excellence. 

«Through the Skills experience, I realized the meaning of detail, delicacy, knowledge and the true meaning of caring. I feel quite prepared and confident for the job market, to take care of my clients with all the professionalism I acquired in this unique experience. I want to pass on my knowledge to other young people who want to enter this area», says the professional.

According to the IEFP, the objective of the competition is to "enhance the training and work carried out by professionals in strategic areas and from the most different sectors of activity and that allows the recognition of professions among young people and companies for economic growth from the country".

In addition to the tests, there are seminars and debates with experts on topics related to employment and professional training.
