City Council "vehemently" condemns vandalism at the VRSA Sports Complex

Autarchy will extend the video surveillance system to the entire perimeter of the equipment

The Municipality of Vila Real de Santo António «vehemently condemns» the acts of vandalism registered, in the early hours of this Thursday, the 16th, at the Municipal Sports Complex, whose damage caused a loss of more than 15 thousand euros.

In a note sent to the newsrooms, the City Council informs that "the crimes have already been communicated to the authorities and the assessment of the damage was carried out, this morning, by the councilor in charge of sports, Álvaro Leal".

The damage was done to two tractors - the target of attempted theft and dangerous maneuvers inside the municipal stadium -, and damage was also recorded to the athletics track, the lawns, vegetation and equipment and training areas.

«This is a regrettable situation that, unfortunately, has already been repeated in other areas of the Sports Complex, namely in the networks of the training fields, in the children's and geriatric park and in the equipment for collective use. We are seriously committed to stopping this type of vandalism in what is one of the most important collective facilities in the municipality and which is used daily by hundreds of athletes», said Álvaro Leal.

In addition to strengthening surveillance, the municipality will extend the video surveillance system to the entire perimeter of the equipment, "in order to stop further episodes of vandalism and protect the infrastructure".

At the moment, the City Council of VRSA is also collaborating with the authorities in order to determine those responsible for the damage.
