There are 95 scholarships, sponsored by 54 companies, which will fully pay the tuition fee for the first year of the degree and/or integrated master's degree, set at 697 euros, which were delivered this Wednesday, February 15th, to excellent students who chose to "study where it is good to live”.

«The scholarship is not an end. On the contrary, in this case, it represents a start or, rather, an impulse to leave. That is where, with great pleasure, we integrate», reiterated Paulo Macedo, executive director of Caixa Geral de Depósitos, the bank that has supported higher education in Portugal for 28 years and which yesterday awarded another 15 scholarships.

From Nursing to Animated Image, passing through Management, Psychology or Engineering. Yesterday was the day to reward the talent and effort of 95 students from all over the country who entered with an application grade equal to or greater than 15 and who chose the University of Algarve as their first choice.

Paulo Águas, dean of this institution, made a point of reminding young people that «they made the right choice in continuing their training, in continuing to study».

“We live in a knowledge society. Only through knowledge will we be able to build a fairer, more inclusive, more supportive society. It is also knowledge that will enable us to increase levels of well-being, both individually and collectively, respecting the planet», he stressed, congratulating everyone on their academic careers.

During the ceremony, Dean Paulo Águas also thanked the companies that joined this initiative which, since 2012, aims to help students.

«Your membership is a sign of recognition of the work carried out at the University of Algarve, in training our young people. Your presence is also a strong incentive for students. It is a sign that they believe in young people, that they believe in the future », he said.

After the award of the 95 scholarships, a speech was also heard by João Francisco Ricardo, the student who entered the Business Management course with an average of 19.

«The University of the Algarve was my first option, my first desire, as well as that of all those who have received awards here today. But it is not the averages that should ask why. You must ask us. The average says nothing about who we are, nor about what we intend. It just reflects our work. Ambitions don't end there, they don't end in a number", he said, thanking UAlg and the companies for the initiative of rewarding the efforts of these young people.

The scholarship award ceremony took place at the Caixa Geral de Depósitos Grand Auditorium, on the Gambelas Campus.
